To work for best returns by investing in deserving entrepreneurial teams using capital, mentoring and relationships.
Laghu Vikas Trust (IN/AIF1/14-15/0109) is a SEBI-registered Category I SME Fund (registered June 2014) managed by SIDBI Venture Capital Limited (SVCL) — a wholly owned subsidiary of SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India), the apex financial institution for the MSME sector in India. Laghu Vikas Trust is the umbrella trust vehicle used by SVCL to launch state-specific and national-level SME and Social Venture Funds. The original SEBI registration (June 2014) was at C/o SIDBI, Atmaram House, Tolstoy Marg, New Delhi 110001, with contact Aasarma Satish (aasarma@sidbiventure.co.in) and phone +91 022 26527116. SVCL was incorporated in 1999 and has managed 90+ venture capital funds across multiple themes including manufacturing and services start-ups, agri businesses, financial inclusion companies, and social enterprises. Funds launched under the Laghu Vikas Trust structure include state-specific vehicles such as Maharashtra Laghu Vikas Trust (MS Fund — Maharashtra State Social Venture Fund), Assam Laghu Vikas Trust, Tripura Laghu Vikas Trust, Atmanirbhar Laghu Vikas Trust (Atmanirbhar Start-up Venture Fund), among others. Each state-level fund is a close-ended scheme under a state Laghu Vikas Trust umbrella, sponsored by SIDBI. SVCL's trustee entity is SIDBI Trustee Company Limited (STCL). SVCL's investment approach has catalysed 500+ MSMEs and startups, including Annapurna Microfinance, Caspian Impact Investments, Glocal Healthcare Systems, Gramco Infratech, ESAF Microfinance, and Oriano Clean Energy.
SIDBI Venture Capital Limited pursues a common investment philosophy across all Laghu Vikas Trust schemes: to identify and invest in profitable and scalable business ventures including innovative business models, new products and technologies that provide social benefits (economic, societal, and/or environmental) to targeted communities or states. A common string in all investments is the focus on identifying strong and ethical leadership teams capable of executing innovation-based business models or robust scalable businesses. SVCL views investments as partnerships and seeks like-minded entrepreneurs with the ambition to develop businesses solid in principles and objectives. Investment structure: equity and/or convertible instruments in unlisted companies, with standard VC rights. Post-investment: mentoring support, network access, and other value additions to help investee companies achieve rapid growth and competitive advantage. Each state fund (e.g. Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, Atmanirbhar) targets start-ups, early and growth stage MSMEs in manufacturing and services within the relevant geography or national theme.
