Asset quality deterioration in stressed lending environments
Key Strengths
Healthy capitalization metrics The capitalisation profile of the group remains healthy with net worth of Rs 656 crores and a gearing of 1.4 times as on December 31, 2025.
At a standalone level too, TCPL’s networth and gearing were comfortable at Rs 582 crores and 1.6 times as on the same date.
The group’s capitalisation is supported by equity infusion and internal accruals.
Ltd Korea (BHK) raises equity and then invests it in BHI, which is then further down streamed by BHI into TCPL.
Since inception, ~Rs 485 crores has been infused as equity into BHI by BHK, out of which, Rs 380 crore has been down streamed into TCPL till date.
Key Weaknesses
Susceptibility of asset quality given unsecured nature of loans The group focuses on providing unsecured loans to salaried and self-employed individuals wherein asset quality metrics remain vulnerable to slippages on account of volatility in borrower’s cashflow.
As on December 31, 2025, 90+ dpd for the group remained elevated and stood at 10.8%, moderating from 13.2% as on March 31, 2025 (8.1% as on March 31, 2024).
However, with the company carrying an aggressive write-off policy, wherein it writes off loans at 90 days dpd, asset quality metrics are measured post adjusting for write-offs during the period.
Including write-offs, 90+ dpd (on an AUM basis) for the group stood at 20.4% as on December 31, 2025, compared to 28.8% as on March 31, 2025.
Moreover, given the shorter tenured nature of its loans, it remains imperative to note the asset quality metrics on a disbursement basis as well.
Upward Factors
2.5 times, also supported by equity infusion Sustainable improvement in asset quality with 90+ dpd (including 12 months write-offs, as a % of disbursements) as the portfolio scales up Ability to diversify resource profile and raise funds at competitive rates and bring down the overall cost of borrowing
Downward Factors
Increase in the steady state gearing of above 4 times
Adverse movement in asset quality metrics and consequently credit costs, thereby, leading to an impact on the earnings profile of the group
