What if the market doesn't exist yet?
WEH Ventures is a Mumbai-based high-conviction, early-stage venture capital fund founded by Deepak Gupta that backs category-creating founders at pre-seed and seed stages. The firm was established in 2017 with the registration of WEH Ventures Fund I (IN/AIF1/16-17/0298), a SEBI Category I Angel Fund, making it one of India's early institutionalised angel funds. All three WEH funds are managed by WEH Venture Partners LLP, headquartered at WeWork Raheja Platinum, Marol, Andheri East, Mumbai. The fund's thesis centres on 'category creators' — founders who build entirely new markets rather than competing in existing ones. WEH's portfolio has demonstrated consistent outperformance: Fund II achieved a 20% net IRR versus a CRISIL-rated median of 11.3%, and 50% of portfolio companies have raised follow-on rounds from top-tier VCs. Notable investments include Jar (micro-investing, backed by Tiger Global), smallcase (thematic investing, backed by PeakXV), MasterChow (Asian food, backed by Anicut and Surge), and Apps for Bharat (spiritual content, backed by Elevation). As of 2025, the portfolio has cumulatively raised $320 million.
WEH Ventures backs category creators at pre-seed and seed stages — founders who create markets that don't yet exist rather than competing in established categories. The fund deploys cheques of $150K–$500K and provides hands-on, founder-first partnership throughout a company's lifecycle. WEH does not prioritise pedigree or polished pitches; instead, it looks for relentless curiosity, unconventional thinking, and unshakeable conviction. The team operates with a 'small army, huge conviction' ethos — over 8,000 founder conversations logged across the fund's history. In-person engagement is a core operating principle, with compliance officer Rohit Krishna explicitly preferring in-person meetings over calls or Zoom.

Deepak Gupta
Partner & Co-Founder
Deepak Gupta is a Partner and Co-Founder of WEH Ventures. A self-described 'transformation optimist', he is the founding figure behind all three WEH fund vintages. He began his career in financial services early enough to type emails on monochrome screens and has since developed a sharp instinct for spotting 'unlabelled founders with inchoate ideas'. He focuses on deals and shaping the fund's direction — from capital allocation to team development. He is both a Designated Partner of WEH Venture Partners LLP and a Sponsor of WEH Ventures Fund I.
