Managed by Utthishta
SEBI-encouraged funds — venture capital, SME, social-impact and infrastructure. Close-ended, generally unleveraged.
Utthishta Yekum Fund (SEBI Reg. IN/AIF1/12-13/0002) is one of India's earliest SEBI-registered Category I AIFs (Venture Capital Fund), registered on 1 August 2012 — the second AIF ever registered by SEBI under the then-new AIF Regulations. It was managed by Hyderabad-based Utthishta Management Advisors LLP, a seed-stage venture capital firm focused on B2B software, web, mobile, and cloud computing startups. The fund had a corpus of ₹70 crore and an anchor commitment of ₹31 crore from M Prabhakara Rao, chairman of the ₹5,600-crore Nuziveedu Seeds Limited (NSL Group), one of India's largest agri-businesses. The fund wrote 'first cheque' investments of ₹10–20 lakh in very early-stage startups, typically acquiring 10–15% equity stakes and holding for a minimum of five years targeting 18–19% returns. Portfolio investments included SmarterSMB, Scanova (Trycon Technologies), Rapport, GreatWideOpen, Claimback, and happyweddings.com. Utthishta was also a partner to NASSCOM 10,000 Startup Initiative, Indian Angel Network, Mumbai Angels, and Calcutta Angels. The fund is listed as liquidated by PitchBook and has no current web presence.
