Srei Alternative Investment Trust (SEBI Reg. IN/AIF1/12-13/0041) is one of India's earliest SEBI-registered Category I AIFs, registered in March 2013 and associated with the Srei Group — a Kolkata-based infrastructure and financial services conglomerate founded by Hemant Kanoria. Managed by Srei Alternative Investment Managers Limited, the fund was part of Srei's broader alternative investment platform focused on infrastructure, clean energy, and development-oriented sectors aligned with India's national growth priorities. A notable scheme managed under this platform was the 'Build India Fund.' Over time, the Srei Group faced severe financial stress and was admitted into insolvency proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) in October 2021, with the RBI directing the resolution process for Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited and Srei Equipment Finance Limited.
