India's First AIF Focused on Media and Entertainment
India Media and Entertainment Trust (IN/AIF2/21-22/0932) is a SEBI-registered Category II AIF, registered September 2021, managed by India Media and Entertainment Fund Management Private Limited (IMEF). IMEF is one of India's first dedicated media and entertainment sector AIFs, raising INR 500 crore to provide equity, NCDs, and structured instruments to companies across content (TV/film/digital), distribution (OTT/DTH/broadcasting/cable), and services (VFX/post-production/sports/talent management). The fund is backed by a team with 50+ years collective M&E experience. Founder: Parth Gandhi, ex-MD of AION Capital (ICICI Venture–Apollo Management JV, USD 825M). The fund operates from A Wing, The Capital, 603-606, G Block BKC, Bandra Kurla Complex, Bandra East, Mumbai – 400051. The India M&E industry is valued at INR 1.8 lakh crore, expected to grow to INR 3.3 lakh crore by 2024 at 1.5x GDP CAGR. Portfolio: Socialswag (seed VC, Jan 2022).
IMEF combines the mindsets of traditional banking and equity investing to create a balanced approach, producing superior risk-adjusted returns in India's media and entertainment sector. The fund provides bespoke capital solutions using structured products — both debt and equity — where there is no organized pool of dedicated M&E capital. IMEF employs a rigorous data-driven methodology for deal sourcing and execution, with proprietary sourcing and management capabilities. The thesis: Indian M&E is growing at 1.5x GDP but receives disproportionately little institutional PE attention. Target sub-sectors include content (film, TV, OTT originals, music, live events), distribution infrastructure, and enabling technology services (VFX, post-production, digital, sports management).
