Where the World Meets Bengal
Biswa Bangla Silpa Trust (IN/AIF1/15-16/0184) is a SEBI-registered Category I Alternative Investment Fund registered in November 2015, established by the Government of West Bengal under the Department of MSME and Textiles. It functions as a state-sponsored venture/investment vehicle to support micro, small, and medium enterprises, handloom weavers, craftspersons, and traditional artisans of West Bengal — aligned with the broader 'Biswa Bangla' brand initiative launched by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2013. The Biswa Bangla brand and associated entities promote the handloom and handicrafts sector of West Bengal through product diversification, quality management, design assistance, and strategic marketing. The trust is headquartered at the Department of MSME and Textiles, 4th Floor, Hemanta Bhavan, 12 BBD Bag East, Kolkata 700001.
As a government-sponsored AIF, Biswa Bangla Silpa Trust deploys capital to support the livelihoods of artisans, weavers, and traditional craftspersons of West Bengal by funding enterprises in the handloom, handicrafts, and MSME sector. The trust's mandate is aligned with the state's inclusive growth agenda — providing patient capital and institutional support to businesses that preserve and scale West Bengal's living heritage, from Jamdani and Baluchari to Dokra metalwork and Shantiniketan leather.
