How to become a SEBI Accredited Investor
Accreditation is a SEBI framework that recognises investors who meet income or net-worth thresholds, giving them access to a wider range of alternative investment products with lighter regulatory minimums.
What accreditation is
An Accredited Investor (AI) is an investor certified by a SEBI-recognised accreditation agency as meeting prescribed financial thresholds. Accredited Investors can access certain AIF schemes at lower ticket sizes and with relaxed disclosure requirements.
Eligibility thresholds
For individuals, HUFs, and family trusts, any one of:
- Annual income of at least ₹2 crore; or
- Net worth of at least ₹7.5 crore, of which at least ₹3.75 crore is in financial assets; or
- Annual income of at least ₹1 crore and net worth of at least ₹5 crore (of which ₹2.5 crore in financial assets).
Body corporates qualify at a net worth of at least ₹50 crore. Trusts (other than family trusts) and partnership firms have their own thresholds — check with the issuing agency.
